I love my job. Seriously love my job. Okay, so there are some days when I really don't want to go to work, but when I sit back and think about it, I realize how cool my job is. If you don't know already, I coach swim team at the Rose Bowl. (no, they don't fill the football stadium with water, there is an aquatics center just down the road.) There are lots of reasons why I love my job. Here are just a few:
*I get to be outside all the time. Yes, sometimes it is absolutely freezing cold at night, and sometimes it is deathly hot in the summer, but overall being outside is great. * The kids are hilarious. I coach a group of 11-12 year olds and a group of 13-18 year olds. They crack me up. Sometimes they don't do it intentionally, but the things they say and/or do make me laugh. *Each day is different, there is always something new. I don't go into an office and do the same thing each day. Everyday I try to come up with a new workout. I try new things: some work, some don't. *Swim meets are a lot of fun. It's difficult spending almost every weekend at a swim meet, but that is the chance where we get to see all of our (and the swimmers) hard work pay off. *I get the chance to see kids set goals and achieve them. What can be greater than that? There really is nothing better than to have a swimmer reach a new personal best time and to have them come over excitedly to talk to you about it. Of course I also see some swimmers fail. And that's not fun. But I am learning so much about how to help them overcome the obstacles in their way and to push themselves to work harder. *I have a great coaching staff that I get to work with. We all get along. We get to have our coaches meetings at Los Gringos. I'm comfortable around them and I can be myself. *I am constantly learning new things. Last Saturday I spent the entire day at a coaches clinic. It was amazing. I got to listen to coaches like Terri McKeever and Bob Bowman teach me what they have done to be so successful. They are pretty much the rockstars of swimming coaches. (Bowman coaches Michael Phelps.)
So there are many more reasons why I love my job, but I think you pretty much get the idea. They created this promotional video for the team and for Rose Bowl and put it on youtube. You get to see the absolutely beautiful pool that I get the chance to work at. I'm only on it for about a split second but if you pause it at about 49-50 seconds you can see me. Enjoy!

I wish I enjoyed doing what I do as much as you do...
That's awesome that you enjoy your job so much! It sounds like a lot of fun.
I know how you loved PG...so I'm happy to hear that you love this gig so much! Cool video, btw. Were you in the red shirt? That was much cooler than Where's Waldo.
I haven't visited with you for such a long time! Your pool does look really nice down that way...and much warmer!
WOW! You're famous. Do you use your espanol mucho? Sorry, don't know how to say much in Spanish that doesn't revolve around guys or little kids talking. . . :)
