Rome: Day 2 1/2

Day 2 was so busy that I had to split it in to 2 posts!

After a delicious lunch, we walked back to Rome and came to the Piazza Navona. Rome is full of beautiful fountains and this was one of them.

We had heard about an amazing gelato treat, the Tartufo, from Tre Scalini. It is ball of chocolate gelato, rolled in chocolate chunks, with a cherry in the middle. AMAZING!

Another beautiful fountain!

We then walked over to the oldest part of Rome. These are the most ancient ruins, from the very first city that was built there. It's amazing to see what still remains from so long ago!

This beautiful arch leads you in to the Colosseum!

The Colosseum was absolutely amazing. It is spectacular to think about the events that took place there. I had always heard about the gladiator events, but I didn't know that they would also remove the floor and they would have mock sea battles. So interesting!

We were lucky that Joe agreed to take a picture. He even took off his hat!! We just told him that he had to do it because it was his anniversary. He was a good sport.

This is where the floor is removed and they would have the boats go through these tunnels. This is also where they would keep the animals before the gladiator events.

Exhausting Day!!

SO jealous, I've always wanted to go to the Colosseum!! And that cherry treat looks good enough for the trip alone :)

Hey, cute dress. ;)

Aren't those ruins amazing? Its just incredible they are still there. I can't believe you didn't get a picture with the costumed gladiator street performers that are always out front. :)
