We had termites. I noticed them one night while Andrew was gone playing basketball. I texted him and told him he needed to come home immediately. (He didn't.) We didn't know what it was at first. But quickly figured out it was termites. Our landlords took their sweet time in arranging to have the house inspected. They then took even more time to decide what to do about it.
In the mean time we had to live with termites in our house. It was disgusting. Every time I walked past them in the hallway it would send shivers up my spine. Yuck. But watching them eat away at the wall was not the worst part. Not even close. It was the swarming. That was the worst part. During the day, for about 1-2 hours, they would swarm. Apparently this is where they fly away to try and find a new place to colonize. The first time I noticed this I was sitting on the couch. I saw one fly past me. Then another. Then another. You get the idea. They were suddenly everywhere!! There was nothing I could do. I wanted to throw up. When they would find a new place to colonize, they would shed their wings. We would walk in to the bathroom and find about 50 wings on the floor. Again, it was disgusting.
Finally a treatment plan was chosen. We had to wait a week or so. We left the house for a couple of days.
Now the termites are gone. Happy, happy day.
