Boy Meets Girl

We were very blessed to have our good friends Brittany and Dave take Gavin the whole time that we were in the hospital. Gavin loves to go play with Betsy so we knew that he would be okay. It was so nice to not have to worry about him and if he was okay.

The day after Avery was born, Andrew went and picked up Gavin and took him to breakfast. He talked to him about coming to visit the new baby and Mom. He was very excited to come. When he brought him in to the room he was noticeably excited to be there. He became very excited to see the baby. He started saying "hold baby." We had him come sit up by me and then put Avery in his arms. After about 2 seconds he was done. He just put his arms out to the side and was all done. I guess it was not as exciting as he thought it would be. It was still a very sweet moment to have the two of them meet for the very first time.

We had brought gifts for Avery to give Gavin each time he came to visit in the hospital. So when we gave him his gift from the baby he was very happy. He spent a little bit of time with us in the hospital and then Brittany came and picked him up.

Later that day they brought Gavin back to spend a little more time with us. Again, Gavin was initially excited to be there, but the excitement quickly wore off. We had another present for him so that made him happy.

We were able to take our first new family pictures. Gavin was eating an apple which he wouldn't put down, and he really wouldn't look at the camera. There was something on the TV that he wouldn't look away from.

I finally took the apple away.

It was so nice to have our little family together. It was a little overwhelming to think that we would have this brand new little one to take care of, as well as a very active 2 1/2 year old. But I know that Gavin is going to be such a good older brother. He is going to take such good care of Avery. We are so blessed and I am excited for our new little family!

Another huge thank you to Brittany for taking Gavin. It definitely could not have been easy to have him for 2 1/2 days. I don't know what I would have done if I had to be worrying about Gavin being okay. It was also nice that Andrew was able to stay with me the whole time and help me with Avery. We are blessed with great friends!

That's way nice of Brittany. And that's a good idea about having Avery give Gavin presents - way to start off on the right foot. :)
