Thanksgiving 2011

This year we had a very low key Thanksgiving. We decided to stay home this year. Because it was just the three of us on Thanksgiving Day we decided that it really wasn't worth making a huge meal, and we decided to go out to eat. For lunch we drove around forever looking for a place that was open! I was surprised that there wasn't more places open. We ended up at Del Taco. Probably not the best Thanksgiving lunch that I have ever had, but it worked!!

After Gavin took a nap we went to a couple stores that were open on Thanksgiving to check out their sales. We then tried to find a place that was open for dinner. Again, we had a really difficult time trying to find a place to eat. It was about 7:00 and most of the places closed at 6:00. We finally ended up at Mimi's Cafe. They had a set Thanksgiving menu and the food was all really good. So it was a nice relaxing Thanksgiving.

That Saturday my mom was in town and the Eckersley's were back from their trip, so we decided to have our "real Thanksgiving Dinner" that night. We had a traditional spread with a lot of food! It was all really good!

We made Grandma sit at the little kids table with Gavin
My mom was helping me make the pumpkin pies and she was telling me a story about a radio announcer that was talking about the year that his mom forgot to put the sugar in the pumpkin pies. I stopped what I was doing and said "wait ... there is supposed to be sugar in the pie?" I had completely forgotten to add the sugar!! We had already poured the mix in to the pie shells, so we then carefully mixed the sugar in to it. Besides a slight film on the top, they turned out okay! I can't believe that I had forgotten the sugar, but luckily my mom was telling me that story at that very moment!!

Happy Thanksgiving!
