Avery's Adventures: Week One

Our first week with Avery was great!  She was such a sleepy baby that almost all she ever did was sleep. It was great, except for when I would try to feed her. We could not get her to wake up to eat!! When we would finally wake her up, she would eat for about 30 seconds and then she would be out again. Nothing could wake her up! It made it really difficult in the middle of the night to want to wake her up, but the doctor said I had to feed her every 3 hours. I'm not going to lie, sometimes I let her go 4 hours when she wouldn't wake up and I wanted to sleep!!

We spent the entire week at the house just relaxing and hanging out. My mom came in to town on Tuesday morning. We were so grateful to have her come and help out! Gavin has been having a difficult time with naps and sleeping through the night and my mom would help us out by getting up with him so we could focus on Avery.

I was able to get out a little bit this first week. Wednesday I took Gavin to a little Valentine's Day party that some friends had. It was nice to get out, but it definitely wore me out!  Someone also asked me when my baby was due, so apparently I still looked very pregnant.

I wanted to take some pictures of her while we had some good natural light. This is as far as we got. She was not excited about it.

After she calmed down I was able to take a few of her sleeping.

While taking pictures Gavin came over and gave her this kiss. So sweet!

Later that night I wanted to get a picture of the two of them together. It was not working out so well. Gavin doesn't understand how to hold her. This was the best one we were able to get.

Most of them turned out like this: Avery screaming and Gavin with his arms out to the sides with a very frustrated look on his face.

On Valentine's Day, Avery had her 5 day doctor appointment. My mom had come in to town that morning so she was able to stay with Gavin so Andrew and I could both go to the appointment.

Definitely not the cutest picture of her.
Her appointment went great and Dr. Fanselau said she is doing very well! She weighed just over 8 lbs. Because she was gaining weight so quickly and was almost back at her birth weight, they said that after a couple more days I could let her sleep as long as she wants at night. I would still need to feed her at least every 3 hours during the day, but could let her sleep at night if she wanted to! I was very exctied!!

5 day stats:
Weight: 8 lbs. 1 oz. (59%)
Height: 20 inches (61%) -- She was 21 inches at the hospital. Apparently she shrunk?!
Head: 14 inches (60%)

Those first few days she seemed to sleep all of the time. It was so nice!

We decided it was time for her first bath. Because her cord hadn't fallen off yet we could only do the sponge bath. Gavin always liked his baths so I assumed that she would do. But she is definitely not a fan of baths!

A couple videos of the first bath:

It took her a few minutes to calm down afterwards.

I took this picture when she was exactly one week old! This picture makes her legs look skinny.

so maybe you should feed her in natural light, or right after Gavin holds her:) She is so adorable. I love the first week. I just want to hide from the rest of the world and snuggle my baby:) It is so nice when they sleep so much!!

She is adorable!! I love that first week, too. (At the hospital, one of the nurses told us it is normal for babies to "shrink" - a lot of times it's from their "cone heads" returning to normal... wait, I'm NOT saying Avery had a cone head...promise!) She's a cutie!!

I hear such conflicting things on the feeding times. My dr told me every 3 hours too, so I was setting my alarm in the night to feed her. But then a different dr told me, "Never wake a sleeping baby. If they are hungry, they will wake up and cry." Hmm. I wasn't really sure what to do, but I WANTED to believe the second dr! :)

Those pics of Gavin trying to hold Avery are awesome.

Hey! Cora shrunk too!

Cutest little squeaky cries during that bath. We have that same pink rinsing cup thing. :)

You got some really cute pictures!!
