Baltimore - Fort McHenry

After leaving New York, Andrew and I took the train down to Baltimore to hang out with Hillary, Josh and JJ for a few days.

The first night there we decided to go visit Fort McHenry. This is considered the birthplace of the National Anthem. While the Fort was being bombed by the British in 1814, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the words to The Star Spangled Banner.

We didn't know it, but we ended up going there on Flag Day. There was a big celebration planned for that night, so the actual Fort closed early. We got there with just enough time to take a quick walk around the fort and check out the visitors center. It was definitely cool and I would love to go back and spend more time there some day.

Later that week we went to the Baltimore Museum of History where we were able to see the original document of the text of the National Anthem. This picture is actually of the replica, but we were able to see the actual document for a few minutes. We all wondered why it isn't in the National Archives, but we were happy to be able to see it!

It was very cool to see the place that inspired our National Anthem. We were excited to be in Baltimore and to be surrounded by all the history of our country!
